How To Make Money On Twitter – Super Follows

Super Follows can help people on Twitter earn monthly income from the conversations they create. You may earn a share of revenue from paid subscriptions offering your most engaged followers an extra level of access and bonus content.

Getting started with Super Follows

How do Super Follows work?

If you are selected to participate in the Super Follows test group, people on Twitter can pay to Super Follow you. They’ll receive perks such as bonus content and interactions from the people they Super Follow. When Super Followers reply to you, you’ll see a badge next to their name so it’s easier to identify and connect with them.

You may earn a share of revenue from people who pay to Super Follow you. Read our Super Follows Creator Terms to learn more about revenue potential.

What features are available in Super Follows?

Currently, people who offer a Super Follows subscription can share Tweets to their Super Followers. As we roll out further, we hope to include Spaces, newsletters and other Twitter features as potential bonus content.

Super Followers will stand out with badges next to their name whenever they reply to the person they’ve Super Followed. These badges are publicly visible.

What’s the eligibility criteria to participate in Super Follows?

To be eligible for Super Follows, you must meet our minimum application requirements:

  1. Be 18 years or older
  2. Have at least 10K followers
  3. Have Tweeted at least 25 times in the past 30 days

To see the complete list of eligibility criteria, please read our Super Follows Policy.

Note: Accepted Super Follows participants must also maintain a minimum of 25 Tweets every 30 days.

Who can sign up to participate in Super Follows?

At this time, the number of people who can apply to offer Super Follows subscriptions is limited to people in the U.S. who meet the minimum eligibility criteria. If you are eligible to apply, submit an application from the main menu of your Twitter app. If you’re eligible, but not selected, we’ll add you to our waitlist.

Where can I find the Super Follows application?

From the Twitter app:

  1. Navigate to the main menu.
  2. Tap Monetization.
  3. Tap Super Follows.

How will I know the status of my Super Follows application?

Right now we’re testing Super Follows with a very limited audience, so we won’t be sending status updates for pending applications.

If you meet the minimum requirements, and you’re approved to offer a Super Follows subscription, you’ll see your status change where you found your Super Follows application.  You’ll need to agree to the Super Follows Creator Terms to apply.

Applicants who meet the minimum requirements, but are not selected for the initial test group are automatically placed on a waitlist. To check if the status of their application changes, they’ll navigate to the main menu, tap Monetization, tap Super Follows.

What content will I be expected to offer?

Ultimately, the content you create is up to you. Here are some types of content you might offer Super Followers in Tweets made just for them:

  • Share unscripted thoughts.
  • Ask for ideas and opinions with extra Tweets.
  • Give personal replies only your Super Followers can see.

Get more ideas in this guide.

Will non-subscribers see my content?

Non-subscribers will see your regular public Tweets, but they won’t see Super Follows Tweets. They also won’t see any Super Follows Tweets sent via link or in a Direct Message.

Super Followers can Quote Tweet or Retweet your Super Follows Tweets, but when they do non-subscribers only see additional comments on them. They won’t see Retweets of your Super Follows Tweets at all. Instead, they’ll be instructed to Super Follow you in order to see your Super Follows Tweet.

Is Super Follows available on iOS, Android, and web?

People in the initial test group who offer a Super Follows subscription can Tweet to Super Followers on iOS only. Right now, subscribers can only purchase a Super Follows subscription and view Super Follows Tweets from an iOS device, but we plan to include Android and web as we roll out more broadly.

What if I decide I don’t want to participate in Super Follows anymore?

We understand sometimes life happens. If you are approved to offer a Super Follows subscription and need to step away from the test group, we’ll work with you to determine the best exit strategy for you and your Super Followers. Navigate to Monetization in the main menu, then Get help for assistance.

Getting paid

Who sets the price of Super Follows subscriptions?

You’ll set the value of the content you’ll offer by choosing from one of three price points: $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99.

How much revenue can I earn?

You’ll be eligible to earn up to 97%* of revenue on your Super Follows subscription, after in-app purchase fees, until you reach $50,000 in lifetime earnings across all Twitter monetization products.

*Note: After $50,000 in lifetime earnings, you can earn up to 80% of revenue after in-app purchase fees. Read our Super Follows Creator Terms for more on the revenue share and what terms and conditions apply.Sample revenue breakdown**

**for demonstration purposes only

A creator is based in the United States, and sets their Super Follows subscription cost to $4.99. Someone from the United States subscribes (available on iOS only at this time), paying in USD. This creator hasn’t yet reached $50,000 in lifetime earnings on Twitter’s monetization products.

$4.99 – Super Follows subscription cost

$1.50 – Apple’s in-app purchase fee (currently, 30% of subscription cost under Apple’s terms, subject to change by Apple)

$0.10 – Twitter’s minimum share

$3.39 – Creator is eligible to take home up to this amount

How will I get paid?

Once you’re approved to move forward as part of the Super Follows test group, you’ll need to set up a confirmed Stripe account with our payout provider.

Stripe determines payout eligibility and methods based on a creator’s location.

When can I get a payout?

In the US, there is a $50 minimum threshold to receive a payout. If you don’t meet the $50 threshold, your balance rolls over into the next month.

Please note that account balances are adjusted when chargebacks are successfully processed. Account balances are also adjusted if Apple issues a refund for a subscription.

I’ve met the minimum withdrawal amount, why can’t I request a payout?

Your payout request may not be processed if there is an information mismatch in your account with our payout provider. You may need to re-add your bank account details (or debit card) to your payout provider.

How do refunds work?

All purchases are final and non-refundable. That includes subscriptions linked to Twitter accounts that have been suspended, or that you have lost access to for any other reason. Super Followers may unsubscribe for any reason, at any time, and must do so to ensure that they’re longer billed for the subscription.

How do chargebacks impact my payout?

Chargebacks will be deducted from a creator’s total payouts. Twitter reserves the right to charge creators for fees associated with chargebacks, but may choose not to do so. Twitter may also recoup from you any fees associated with any chargebacks.

My payout was processed, why haven’t I received the funds?

Typically, it takes 3-5 business days for funds to appear in your bank account. In some cases, it can take up to 10 business days.

I file taxes in the US, will I receive a Form 1099?

Yes. People in the US will receive an IRS Form 1099 if they’ve earned more than $600 USD in the previous tax year. A copy of your 1099 form will be sent to you.
